Mitt Romney refuses to release his full tax returns. He has not explained such things as how he could have $100+ million in an IRA (although it has $6 K yearly contribution limits), and what offshore accounts he has, whether he has paid tax on the income in those accounts, and why he is sheltering income offshore.
Placing income in offshore accounts may be legal by itself. Not paying tax on income earned (if you're a US citizen) is of greater concern. Politics aside, this is an extraordinarily serious issue, and I'm surprised it is not getting greater attention. And, I should note, the average citizen has no obligation to release their returns. Running for high national office, however, is a voluntary act, and one should be prepared to demonstrate their financial conduct is beyond repute for the Office.
