Today's Exciting Election of the Electoral College!

Today is election day in the United States, which means, of course, it is the day we finally get to elect electors to the Electoral College! Informally we pretend we are voting for the positions of President and Vice President.

The Electoral College is an august institution of which all Americans are rightfully proud. According to Wikipedia, "Although electors are not required by federal law to honor a pledge, in the overwhelming majority of cases they vote for the candidate to whom they are pledged." That is comforting news indeed.  I have no idea who my electors are. Their names generally do not appear on the ballot.
