Charles Feeney: “Spiritual Leader” for Wealthy Donors

The New York Times has a profile of Charles "Chuck" Feeney, a billionaire who made his money selling alcohol to sailors, operating airport duty free shops, and then mall travel stores, and has been giving it away for the past 30 years, to the tune of $6 billion so far. He founded a charity -- The Atlantic Philanthropies -- in 1982 but kept his involvement out of the public eye until 1997.  Throughout he has been an extraordinary supporter of education, medical care, immigration reform, aging research, advocacy for criminal justice, and peace initiatives. He's also joined with Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, and many other extraordinarily wealthy persons, in making The Giving Pledge (though that probably goes without saying).
