From Smithsonian, a compelling article on why Jim Thorpe was the greatest Olympic athlete of all time. Thorpe was stripped of his medals and out of the record books for playing pro baseball before the Olympics despite the fact this was not an Olympic sport. The IOC has been kind enough to give replicas of his medals back, but amend the books to show his achievements? No.
